Position: Aviation Maintenance Technology FT Teaching Faculty (9 or 12-month)

Blue Ridge Community College is hiring an Aviation Maintenance Technology Teaching Faculty for a full‑time, 9‑ or 12‑month position. The start date will be May 2026 for 12‑month assignments and August 2026 for 9‑month assignments. The role includes teaching, laboratory instruction, student advising, and various institutional responsibilities as outlined below.

Instructional Duties
  • Teach a full load of courses, including labs, during the academic year. Courses may be offered in person, hybrid, or online, depending on program needs.
  • Participate in program instructional evaluation and improvement.
  • Ensure safe lab practices, proper tool usage, and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Assist in the development of student laboratory projects.
  • Maintain FAA‑compliant records and documentation.
  • Provide student advising and career guidance.
Institutional Responsibilities
  • Participate in the annual performance objectives process.
  • Support the college’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Stay current on college policies and procedures.
  • Communicate and hold posted student engagement hours.
  • Comply with administrative deadlines.
  • Participate in governance, accreditation, and assessment activities.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships.
Scholarly Engagement and Creativity
  • Participate in advisory council meetings.
  • Attend professional conferences or meetings.
  • Participate in business/industrial activities related to the discipline.
  • Make presentations to organizations.
  • Revise or develop new curricula or courses.
  • Continue education in the discipline as needed.
  • Pursue continued industry education.
Service Component
  • Maintain, upgrade, and develop laboratory equipment.
  • Upkeep and upgrade laboratory as needed.
  • Participate in AMT program meetings and projects, including but not limited to:
    • Student data gathering and analysis.
    • Assessment data gathering and analysis.
    • Accreditation data gathering and reporting.
    • Program needs assessment, justification, and reporting.
    • Program advocacy, internal and external.
  • Provide service to:
    • Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC)
    • AMT Department
    • Community partners
Special Assignments
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Required Qualifications
  • A&P Airframe and Power Plant Certificate.
  • Minimum two years of field experience.
  • Familiarity or willingness to be trained on hardware, software (e.g., word processor, spreadsheet, database), and internet resources relevant to the field and education.
  • Proficiency with common hardware, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to create effective lesson plans and teach students.
  • Passion for aviation maintenance and teaching.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and cooperation skills.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development, including integration of new technology and pedagogy.
  • Creativity, innovation, and compassion in instruction.
  • Ability to teach a diverse student population.
Helpful, But Not Required
  • Additional training or education in aeronautical science or aviation maintenance technology.
  • Post‑secondary teaching experience.
  • Significant full‑time equivalent aviation maintenance or aircraft engineering technology or industry experience.
  • Airline/air carrier maintenance experience.
  • Capability to use a learning management system for distance delivery, both synchronous and asynchronous.
  • Inspection Authorization or other FAA certifications or designations.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development and FAR 147 curriculum requirements.
  • Specialized field experience or education, such as NDI, composites, electronics, structural repair.
  • Evidence of partnership skills with commercial, private, and public agencies and organizations, including advisory boards.
  • Evidence of professional scholarly activities: professional organization membership, grant writing, publications.
  • Familiarity with accreditation procedures and national standards for the discipline.
  • Familiarity with aviation education considerations and needs in the Commonwealth and beyond.
  • Experience leading or working in a diversified workforce in a multi‑cultural setting.
