Instructor $1,590;
Assistant Professor $1,727;
Associate Professor $1,856;
Professor $1,998. Work locations:
Multiple sites. Telework is subject to change. Must reside in the DMV metro area.

Job Description

Adjunct faculty are responsible for planning and teaching courses in EMS to students of varied academic backgrounds. Teaching may be face‑to‑face, remote, or online. Contracts do not guarantee continued employment. The teaching load is up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters or up to 8 credit hours in the summer session.

Duties and Tasks
  • Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
  • Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
  • Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
  • Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization.
Essential Functions

Provide quality instruction by meeting assigned classes regularly; submitting required records and reports; teaching prescribed courses with established texts; and following the college’s statement on professional ethics.

Special Assignments

Assist the agency or state government, particularly during an emergency declaration by the Governor. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

KSAs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of lecture and laboratory demonstration of EMS subject matter at EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic levels.
  • Knowledge of preparation and delivery of required course content for the CoEMSP accredited program.
  • Ability to use instructional technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Able to teach a combination of day, evening, weekend, and online classes.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Services or related degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in prehospital emergency care.
  • VA OEMS or National Registry certification as a Paramedic.
  • Experience with instruction, evaluation, and supervision of EMS students.
Additional Considerations
  • Instructor certification in ACLS and PALS.
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • Candidate must possess sufficient technology skills to work productively with extensive instructional technology resources.
  • Knowledge of and experience with proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
