Working Title:

Adjunct Instructor of Criminal Justice. Role Code 51145. Pay: $700–$1,100 per credit hour. Position is part‑time, face‑to‑face at Danville Community College, anticipated start August 2026.

Work schedule:

Monday – Wednesday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and additional times as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned Criminal Justice courses in accordance with college policies. Maintain current knowledge of the Criminal Justice field. Incorporate developmentally appropriate practice and evidence‑based instructional strategies. Teach day, night, and online courses as needed. Complete Canvas and Regular Substantive Interaction training. Participate in professional development related to teaching and Criminal Justice.
  • Serve as the faculty lead for the Criminal Justice program. Facilitate program advisory committee meetings and assist the dean with planning, scheduling, and coordination of courses. Facilitate communication among adjunct instructors and the division dean.
  • Advise students regarding program requirements, career pathways, and transfer opportunities. Assist students in understanding pathways to credentials, licensure or bachelor’s degree programs. Participate in recruitment, orientation, and program outreach. Support retention and completion initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource and liaison for adjunct and full‑time faculty. Facilitate sharing of curriculum resources, instructional materials, and best practices. Assist onboarding of new adjunct faculty. Coordinate faculty participation in program assessment and accreditation activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local law‑enforcement providers and agencies. Collaborate with community partners to support workforce development. Represent the division in community events, advisory committees, and professional organizations.
  • Assist with collection and analysis of program data. Prepare documentation and reports required for institutional and accreditation review.
  • Maintain professional involvement in law‑enforcement organizations and initiatives. Stay current on the field and teaching best practices. Participate in college service, committees, and professional development activities.
  • Other duties as assigned, including potential emergency support for state government.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or Master’s with 18 graduate semester hours in Criminal Justice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Discretion and sound judgment in decision making.
  • Ability to communicate with students and community members.
  • Ability to adapt, meet deadlines, and perform multiple tasks.
  • Skilled in time‑management, problem solving, conflict management, adaptability, and creativity.
  • Strong personnel management skills emphasizing development of instructional expertise.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Skilled in monitoring, mentoring, and evaluating.
  • Proven ability to operate within state, federal, and accrediting agency regulations and policies.
  • Ability to utilize campus resources, software, and learning management systems.
  • Ability to utilize technology to enhance instruction.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence and the community college mission.
  • Ability to travel for professional development.
Additional Considerations
  • 2 years of experience in criminal justice.
  • Knowledge and experience with People Soft.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using a learning management system.
  • Experience working in a community college setting.
  • Demonstrated success working with students, faculty, and administration.
