Position: Adjunct Communications Faculty (Part-Time) :Introduction to Human Communication

Working Title:

Adjunct Communications Faculty (Part-Time) – Introduction to Human Communication. Position Code: 276A0

TBD. Salary: $793.00 – $1098.00 per hour (dependent on rank). Hybrid teaching during Fall 2026 semester (Aug‑17 – Dec‑15, 2026). Teaching locations:
Christanna Campus – Alberta, VA;
John H. Daniel Campus – Keysville, VA;
Tuesdays, 1:00 PM – 2:25 PM.

Course Content &

Specific Duties
  • Examine elements affecting human communication in intrapersonal, interpersonal, small group, and public contexts.
  • Emphasize the practice and development of communication skills across all identified contexts.
  • Facilitate college-level reading and analysis of scholarly studies.
  • Oversee the production of coherent written reports, including at least one APA/MLA‑formatted individual writing assignment.
  • Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high‑quality course materials align with college standards.
  • Maintain engagement through the college’s Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for the online portion of the course.
  • Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Communication, Speech, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams.
  • Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
  • Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.
Additional Considerations
  • Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face‑to‑face and online/hybrid modalities.
  • Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom, and Canvas LMS.
  • Experience working with community college students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
