Natural Sciences Adjunct Role

Position Type:
Part‑time, Credit‑hour dependent (up to 12 credit hours per semester or 29 total weekly workload hours).

Pay: $793.00 – $1098.00 hourly, salary depending on qualifying rank.

Hours:

Flexible; may be a combination of day, night, and/or weekend shifts.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize and deliver instruction for courses using approved syllabi, student learning outcomes, and contemporary pedagogical practices.
  • Maintain a positive classroom or virtual climate conducive to student learning.
  • Lead hands‑on lab experiments, strictly maintain laboratory safety protocols, guide students through scientific data collection and foster critical scientific inquiry.
  • Utilize instructional technologies, including the college’s Learning Management System (Canvas), for grading, course announcements, and virtual teaching components.
  • Review, grade, and return student assignments, laboratory reports, and exams in a timely manner; provide regular academic feedback to assist student growth.
  • Provide accessible office hours for academic guidance and clarification.
  • Adhere to academic policies outlined in the SVCC Adjunct Faculty Handbook, submit final grades by deadlines, and report enrollment or attendance issues as required.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Biology, or a related biomedical science field, with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the specialty science.
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related chemical science field, with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in pure chemistry.
  • Master’s degree in Physics or a related physical science/engineering field, with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in pure physics.
  • Demonstrated teaching competence, strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to write syllabi and examinations.
  • Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
  • Ability to support students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds, with commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.
  • Proficiency with current pedagogical strategies and educational technology platforms.
Additional Considerations
  • Previous teaching experience at community college or university, including face‑to‑face and online/hybrid modalities.
  • Experience developing or teaching fully online, asynchronous laboratory courses.
  • Competence with instructional technologies such as SMART Boards, Zoom, and Canvas LMS.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
