Instructor of Nursing

Position:
Instructor of Nursing – Full‑time, nine‑month faculty role in the Registered Nursing Program at Southwest Virginia Community College (Southern Gap campus, Grundy, VA). Reports directly to the Dean of Health Technologies and indirectly to the Vice President of Academic and Student Services.

This full‑time teaching position is offered for the 2026 academic year. The Instructor will deliver coursework, provide student advising, participate in program assessment, and contribute to faculty and university initiatives. Performance evaluations determine reappointment.

• Teach Fundamentals, Medical/Surgical Nursing, Obstetrics, Psychiatric, Geriatric, Maternal, and Pediatric Nursing in classroom and clinical settings.
• Advise students on curriculum and career goals.
• Collaborate with nursing faculty to develop and evaluate curriculum/courses.
• Establish and assess student learning outcomes and participate in institutional effectiveness initiatives, including assessment and program reviews.
• Apply concept‑based nursing education principles.
• Deliver courses via distance learning media.
• Maintain a minimum of ten office hours per week.
• Serve on college and program committees.
• Engage in college, community, and professional activities.
• Pursue professional growth and development in the discipline.
• Perform additional duties as appropriate.
• Build and sustain effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.

Travel is required for this position.

• Current unrestricted or multistate RN license in Virginia.
• Master’s degree in Nursing.
• Proficiency with PC, Microsoft Office, educational software, SIS, and Canvas.
• Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
• Recent related nursing experience (minimum two years).
• Background check clearance required.
• Demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships with students, faculty, and staff.

• Successful teaching experience at the community college level.
