Position: Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program Faculty/Academic Fieldwork Coordinator

Position Overview

Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program Faculty/Academic Fieldwork Coordinator – 9‑month teaching faculty role at Virginia Western Community College (Roanoke, VA). The position supports the newly developing OTA program, preparing for initial accreditation and later managing the clinical/academic fieldwork components.

Pay: $70,541 – $122,936 (FLSA Exempt, 9‑month faculty salary spread over 12 months). The role includes summer teaching and clinical coordination duties, part‑time during summer. Telework options are subject to change based on business needs. No bilingual or multilingual requirement.

Responsibilities
  • Finalize curriculum, course development, and accreditation documentation for the OTA program.
  • Expand and secure fieldwork partnerships, select and evaluate fieldwork education sites, and maintain accreditation standards.
  • Coordinate academic fieldwork components, develop fieldwork course objectives, materials, and educational experiences.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student performance and collaborate with fieldwork settings and supervisors.
  • Serve as liaison between the OTA program and fieldwork education sites.
  • Mentor and advise students during their fieldwork experience.
  • Deliver didactic instruction in lecture and laboratory formats.
  • Facilitate student learning, advising, and professional development.
  • Adhere to accreditation expectations and standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, and assist the agency or state government in emergency declarations, if required.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a licensed occupational therapy assistant (OTA) or deemed equivalent program.
  • Minimum of a baccalaureate degree from a USDE‑recognized institution.
  • Nationally certified and licensed OT or OTA, or eligible for licensure in Virginia.
  • At least 2 years documented experience in occupational therapy, including clinical practice and fieldwork educator roles.
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem‑solving, and counseling skills.
  • Proficient in information technology (word processing, e‑mail, database) or ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to work with students with special needs under the ADA.
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting clinical education.
  • Meet faculty requirements defined by accreditation standards for an associate‑degree OTA program.
  • Initiate, administer, assess, and document fieldwork education programs.
  • Work independently and coordinate with colleagues.
  • Travel as needed.
  • Maintain presence on campus as required.
Additional Considerations
  • Prior teaching experience in an OTA or OT academic program.
  • Master’s degree earned or in progress.
  • Member of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Knowledge of education, management, and adult learning theories.
  • Active in fieldwork practice and professional activities.
  • Documented expertise in teaching responsibilities and content delivery methods, including web‑supported classes.
