Introduce students to the scientific study of behavior and mental processes through the foundational principles of psychology
Join Southside Virginia Community College in guiding students through the foundations of human behavior and mental processes through PSY 200. This is a Passport and UCGS transfer course that surveys the basic concepts of psychology, covering the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. The successful candidate must be committed to SVCC’s mission to provide high-quality education to the Southside Virginia community.
Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled.
Course Content &Specific Duties
- Teach undergraduate-level Principles of Psychology, providing a comprehensive survey of foundational topics including research methods, biological bases of behavior, sensation and perception, and developmental psychology.
- Instruct students in core psychological processes such as learning, memory, cognition, intelligence, personality, and social behavior.
- Cover major psychological disorders and their evidence-based treatments.
- Design and implement assignments that promote college-level reading comprehension, critical thinking, and clear, coherent written communication.
- Utilize pre-developed assessments aligned with institutional learning outcomes and requirements and evaluate student work to support program and college-wide assessment purposes.
- Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring all course materials, activities, and assessments meet established college standards for quality and rigor.
- Maintain consistent student engagement through the college’s Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), supporting both in-person and online components of the course.
- Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.
