General InformationThe Division of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences augments full-time teaching faculty with qualified part-time instructors to enhance the student learning process. Adjunct faculty may teach up to 8 credit hours in the summer semester, 12 in the fall, and 12 in the spring, with additional restrictions depending on other positions occupied within Virginia’s Community Colleges System (VCCS).
ResponsibilitiesProvide primarily on-campus, traditional delivery at the Chester and Midlothian campuses, with limited opportunities for online instruction. Courses taught may include:
- Acting I, II, III, & IV
- Acting for the Camera
- Basic Lighting
- Costume Construction
- Costume Design
- Film Appreciation I
- History of Theatre I & II
- Improvisation I & II
- Introduction to Communication
- Introduction to Make‑Up for the Theatre
- Introduction to the Theatre
- Movement I & II
- Principles of Public Speaking
- Public Relations
- Scenic Design
- Stagecraft
- Survey of Mass Media
- Theatre Aesthetics
- Voice and Diction I & II
- Writing Across Media
May be required to perform other duties as assigned or assist the agency or state government during an emergency declaration by the Governor.
QualificationsRequired:
Minimum of a master’s degree in Communication or Theatre, or a related field with 18 graduate semester hours in Communication or Theatre.
Additional Considerations include prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level, proficiency in instructional technologies, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
