Associate Instructor – Welding
Associate Instructor position (Restricted) at Northern Virginia Community College, teaching welding courses with an instructional load of 33 to 39 credit hours and 39 to 49 contact hours over the academic year.
Responsibilities- Provide quality instruction to students in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities.
- Work with students to develop their interests and abilities, fostering better workers and citizens.
- Meet assigned classes regularly, submit required records and reports, teach prescribed courses with established texts, conduct student conferences, hold required office hours, adhere to professional ethics statements, and respond to emails responsibly.
- Maintain current competence in the welding discipline or field of specialization and advise students.
- Assist the agency or state government as directed during emergencies, if required.
- Hands‑on experience with SMAW, GMAW, GTAW processes.
- OXY‑Fuel and plasma arc capability.
- Machine set‑up and troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrated welding ability.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Five years of full‑time occupational field experience in welding (part‑time experience converted to full‑time equivalency).
- College‑level teaching experience.
- AWS‑certified welder (present or past).
- Canvas or other LMS experience.
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
- Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
- Experience in CNC Plasma Table operation and advanced fabrication techniques.
