Adult Education Instructor - Nelson

Position Overview

Adult Education Instructor – Part‑time hourly position (29 hours or less per week) located in Nelson County (Albemarle - 003). Employment is non‑benefitted and requires on‑site availability for in‑person instruction.

• Plan, organize, and provide instruction in core GED content areas: math, social studies, science, and language arts. Facilitate computer‑based instruction in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESL).
• Integrate employability and computer skills into instruction.
• Help students develop career pathway goals and plans.
• Evaluate student learning and develop instructional strategies and individualized learning plans to meet learning goals.
• Administer pre‑ and post‑assessments.
• Maintain complete and accurate records.
• Participate in staff meetings and professional learning communities.

• Bachelor’s Degree and adult teaching experience required.
• Outstanding personal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to keep accurate records.
• Ability to incorporate current technology into the classroom environment.
• Ability to work with a diversity of individuals and groups.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans.
• Ability to adapt to changing work priorities.
• Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships.

• Relevant graduate degree or ESL certificate, and experience working with adults.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned or to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
