Job Overview
Math Instructional Assistant – Trainer and Instructor I (Role Code 29111-SW) at Virginia Peninsula Community College. The role provides individual and small group instruction, assistance, and resources to students who encounter math‑related problems in their VPCC courses.
Work ScheduleMonday to Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Telework options are subject to change based on business needs.
Campus Policy DesignationCampus Security Authority (Clery Act) and Responsible Employee (Title IX).
Responsibilities- Provide individual and small group instruction, assistance, and resources to students who encounter math-related problems in VPCC courses.
- Assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated understanding of mathematics foundations (arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics) necessary for success in associate’s degrees and certificate‑level career and technical programs and courses.
- Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software, databases, and electronic communications.
- Proficiency with graphing calculators.
- Excellent communication and strong listening skills.

- Demonstrated math teaching and/or tutorial experience at the high school or two‑year college level.
- Demonstrated understanding of pedagogical principles in working with adult learners and underserved populations; experience working with such populations.
- Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.
- Experience in a community college setting.
- Experience with scheduling and tutor administration software such as Navigate and Brainfuse.
- Experience with math instructional systems such as My Math Lab.
