Pay:
Adjunct faculty teaching PSY are paid per credit hour based on rank:
Instructor ($935), Assistant Professor ($1,047), Associate Professor ($1,160), Professor ($1,249).
Telework Options:
Subject to change based on business needs.
Work Schedule:
Combination of day, evening, online, and/or hybrid courses.
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include face‑to‑face, remote, and online formats. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in fall and spring semesters and/or up to 8 credit hours during summer sessions. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs.
The contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
- Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
- Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
The college expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly, submit required records and reports routinely, teach prescribed courses of study with the established texts, and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college policies, procedures, and regulations.
Must Reside in DMV AreaMust reside in the DC, VA, or MD DMV area.
Special AssignmentsMay be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA’s /Required Qualifications
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with or adapt to teaching with technology.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population.
- Bachelor’s degree in the field with related experience.
- Master’s degree in the field or master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Counseling, Student Development, or related fields.
- Teaching experience – college level teaching experience preferred.
- Experience working with a learning management system (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).
- Experience teaching in‑person and online/asynchronously.
- Experience teaching remotely/synchronously.
