Job Title

Automotive Technology Adjunct Role

Job Summary

The adjunct faculty member is responsible for teaching courses to which the instructor has specific training or competence. The instructor plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to students to promote and direct student learning in either a classroom, remote via Zoom, or online environment to students with a wide variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Students are engaged outside of class via office hours and receive thorough, timely, and effective feedback regarding mastery of course and program learning outcomes.

Functional

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for creating a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a discipline and/or program.
  • Aligns course activities with student learning outcomes; employs a variety of active learning strategies to foster student engagement; uses appropriate technology and supporting materials; and provides students with prompt and meaningful feedback on course activities and assignments in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Delivers instruction in support of stated learning outcomes; adheres to college policies and procedures for student surveys of instruction; conducts meaningful and timely assessments of student learning, including at least one assessment within the first 15% of the class; and analyzes prior evaluations of instruction to develop and implement appropriate action plans as necessary.
  • Responsibilities may include work during the day, evening, and/or weekend as determined by the course(s) assigned.
  • Hold at least one office hour per week for each course assigned.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Required Qualifications (KSA’s)
  • Bachelor’s degree in teaching field or an associate degree in the teaching field with demonstrated competency.
  • Two years of related work experience.
  • ASE certification in the areas being taught.
  • Recent automotive training (within the past five years) with a transcript or certification from the program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in an electronic format.
Additional Considerations
  • Master’s degree in related field of study.
  • Experience teaching in an automotive manufacturer-sponsored training program.
  • ASE Master Automotive Technician certification, a Virginia State Inspection license, and a Refrigerant Recovery License.
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • Knowledge of CANVAS or other learning management systems.
  • Knowledge of proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
  • Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources.

Salary: $793 – $1,375 per credit hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
