Employment type
is part‑time with an annual salary of $793 per credit hour, the minimum for the role. The position is located in Franklin, Virginia (Zip 620) and is offered online, with flexibility to teach during the day, evenings, or weekends as needed throughout the academic year. Telework is permitted subject to business needs, and the role does not require bilingual or multilingual skills.
- Teaching:
Create a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a subject. Teaching encompasses four components:
Instructional Design, Instructional Delivery, Instructional Effectiveness, and Instructional Expertise. - Scholarly and Creative Engagement:
Participate in scholarly and/or creative activity, including conference attendance, presentations, professional organization involvement, academic coursework, research, publications, and grant activity. - Institutional Responsibility:
Perform assigned duties that support and advance the mission of the Virginia Community College System. Activities include participation in the college’s development and evaluation plan for part‑time faculty, attending required department, committee, and college meetings, adhering to college and VCCS policies, and maintaining collegial relationships with faculty and staff. - Service:
Contribute to student, college, and community organizations through college representation, citizenship, and community engagement. - Special Assignments:
May be required to perform other duties as assigned and may assist agency or state government during emergency declarations.
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Ability to design and implement curricula that align educational outcomes with student goals.
- Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies for traditional and non‑traditional students with diverse backgrounds and academic competencies.
- Knowledge of effective online teaching methods.
- Proficiency in using various technologies for communication, data organization, course materials, and presentations.
- Ability to use formative and summative assessment measures to evaluate and enhance student learning.
- Experience with proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, suitable for group presentations and one‑on‑one interactions.
- Commitment to staying current and continually improving knowledge of the teaching discipline.
- Online teaching certification.
- Online teaching experience.
- Community college or four‑year college teaching experience.
- Experience with alternative delivery methods, including online delivery, hybrid, hyflex, content software, and web enhancements.
- Willingness to incorporate AI and technology into education.
