Medical Administrative Support Technology Adjunct
Work location:
Portsmouth, VA. Salary: $793–$1,375 per credit hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- Creating a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a discipline and/or program.
- Aligning course activities with student learning outcomes; employing a variety of active learning strategies, technology and supporting materials to foster student engagement and provide students with prompt, meaningful feedback.
- Delivering instruction in support of stated learning outcomes; adhering to college policies for student surveys of instruction; conducting meaningful and timely assessments of student learning, including at least one assessment within the first 15% of class; analyzing previous semester’s evaluation of instruction and developing appropriate action plans.
- Performing work during day, evening, or weekend as determined by the course(s) assigned.
- Holding at least one office hour per week for each assigned course.
- Ability to communicate effectively in an electronic format.
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Healthcare Management, Medical Office Administration, Nursing (BSN) or a closely related field.
- Two years of related occupational experience in Medical Office Administration, Healthcare Front Desk Management, Hospital or Clinic Administrative Support, Medical Billing and Coding, or Electronic Health Record Systems.
- Teaching experience at the college level.
- Knowledge of Canvas or other learning management systems.
- Knowledge of proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Proficiency in technology skills to work productively in an environment that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources.
- Master’s degree in Health Administration, Public Health, Nursing or a closely related field (preferred).
- Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) or related credential.
- Experience with HER systems such as Epic, Cerner or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and healthcare compliance standards.
- Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to engage adult learners and traditional students.
- Proficiency in current workplace technologies.
- Commitment to student success and workforce development.
