Terms of Employment: Teacher’s Salary Scale (9.5-Month Contract 200 Days)
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Location: River City Middle School
Immediate Supervisor: Building Principal
General Description: The Music Instrumental/Band Teacher plans and implements a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental level. Guides the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, communicating them effectively to students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Know and effectively communicate the Richmond Public Schools (“RPS”) philosophy and mission.
- Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation per RPS, state, and federal guidelines.
- Establish high expectations for academic success and classroom behavior.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet student needs and capabilities.
- Identify special needs and seek assistance from RPS specialists.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports to supervisors and parents.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and RPS policy.
- Assist in designing, upholding, and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and School Board policy.
- Actively participate in faculty and/or department meetings.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Exert leadership in working with school and RPS staff.
- Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and instructional materials; maintain open communication with students and parents.
- Pursue professional growth through ongoing reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
- Assist in the preparation of data for local, state, and federal reports.
- Assist in data collection for appropriate interventions.
- Participate in faculty committee meetings, chaperoning, counseling, and other responsibilities part of the school’s service in loco parentis; exercise discretionary authority over day‑to‑day teaching functions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Must have a collegiate or postgraduate professional license or be eligible for a provisional license in Music:
Instrumental. - One year of teaching experience or equivalent preferred.
- One year of experience conducting lessons and assessing student progress, maintaining discipline, and meeting with parents to discuss progress and problems preferred.
- Experience providing ongoing academic guidance for students preferred.
- Bilingual skills to include Spanish is required.
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $58,708 to $109,226 Per Year
