Position SummarySt. Christopher's School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys' schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks a Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for grades 6 - 12. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between physical preparation and character development, understanding the unique developmental needs of young men ranging from adolescence through early adulthood.
This role is not just about lifting weights; it is about teaching movement proficiency, resilience, and the School's core values through a structured, education-based athletic program.
- Design and execute age-appropriate training programs that prioritize long-term athletic development and encourage lifelong fitness.
- Create systems and schedules that will support multi-sport athletes, ensuring peak performance during in-season play and recovery during the off-season.
- Work closely with the Athletic Director and sport-specific coaches to align strength/speed training with team goals.
- Implement proactive strategies to reduce the risk of common athletic injuries.
- Lead, train, and supervise all weight room sessions with a focus on proper form and safety.
- Use the weight room to promote life skills such as discipline, accountability, team building, team chemistry, and brotherhood among the students.
- Adapt coaching styles to meet the needs of both the elite varsity athlete and the student-athlete just beginning his fitness journey.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress.
- Collaborate daily with sport-specific Head Coaches and the Athletic Training staff to manage injured athletes and return-to-play protocols.
- Contribute to the oversight of the organization, maintenance and cleanliness of the Kemper Athletic Center to include the weight room and performance areas.
- Assist in supervising team competitions.
- Work outside of normal school hours to meet the needs of our athletic teams and student-athletes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Headmaster.
- Attend weekly athletic department meetings.

- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Certification: CSCS (NSCA) or SCCC (CSCCa).
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
- Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience teaching/coaching in a high school or collegiate setting.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to circulate among students.
- Must be able to visually monitor students.
- Must be able to demonstrate all lifts and movements effectively.
- Must be able to move from field to field and from building to building as assigned or required by athletic activities.
- Must be able to lift up to 50+/- pounds.
- Occasionally required to work in poor weather conditions such as temperature, precipitation, and wind.

Summary of Employee Benefits for Full-Time EmployeesFull-time employees work a minimum of 1,000 hours per year.
Retirement PlanThe School contributes 7.5% of the employee's contract salary each year to a 403(b) Defined Contribution Retirement Plan for employees at least 21 years of age who have completed one year of full-time employment with St. Christopher's School or similar experience at another institution. In addition, the School will provide a matching contribution equal to 1.5% of contract salary if the employee makes an elective deferral equal to or greater than 1.5% of contract salary to their 403(b) Defined Contribution Retirement Plan, for a potential School contribution of 9.0%.
