Embedded Math Instructional Assistant – Trainer Instructor – role code 29111‑SW, FLSA Nonexempt – Pay range $21.50–23.00.
OverviewThe Learning Resources Center (LRC) is an integral part of the academic units that report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The LRC advances the mission of the college through a comprehensive, readily accessible collection of curriculum‑related informational materials, instructional technologies, and other academic support services that meet the educational needs of students, faculty, and staff.
Responsibilities- Act as an embedded tutor for assigned math classes.
- Attend class regularly, providing individual and small‑group instruction, assistance, and resources.
- Hold individual and group appointments with students outside of scheduled class hours.
- Work closely with faculty to plan class activities, exchange feedback, and troubleshoot situations.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned, including assistance during emergencies.
- Demonstrated math teaching and/or tutorial experience at the high school or two‑year college level.
- Demonstrated understanding of pedagogical principles for working with adult learners and underserved populations.
- Experience working with adult learners and underserved populations.
- Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard.
- Understanding of mathematics foundations (arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry) necessary for associate degrees and certificate programs.
- Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet software, databases, and electronic communications.
- Proficiency with graphing calculators.
- Excellent communication and strong listening skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and time‑management skills.
- Analytic problem‑solving skills.
- Create a safe and engaging learning environment.
- Patience, flexibility, and ability to vary teaching methods and resources according to student needs.
- Work independently and collaborate with a team.
- Effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success.
- Work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
- Work at multiple campus locations.
- Experience with scheduling and tutor administration software such as Navigate and Brainfuse; experience with math instructional systems such as My Math Lab .
- Experience in a higher education setting.
This is a grant‑funded position. Continuation of employment is based on funding availability. The position is designated as Campus Security Authority (Clery Act) and Responsible Employee (Title IX).
