Teaching Faculty – Auto Body/Collision Repair (9‑Month Instructor)

Location:

Chesapeake, VA
Salary: $52,905 – $102,591, commensurate with experience
Full‑time position

Functional Responsibilities
  • Teaching:
    Create a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in the discipline and/or program.
  • Instructional Design:
    Utilize and distribute established course syllabus using the college’s i‑INCurr system; participate in textbook selection and design assessment strategies that measure student achievement of course learning outcomes.
  • Instructional Delivery:
    Align course activities with learning outcomes; employ active learning strategies and appropriate technology; provide prompt and meaningful feedback to students.
  • Instructional Effectiveness:
    Deliver instruction that aligns with stated learning outcomes; conduct and analyze student surveys and assessments; develop action plans as needed.
  • Instructional Expertise:
    Maintain currency in the assigned teaching discipline(s) and instructional technology.
  • Scholarly and Creative Engagement:
    Participate in conferences, workshops, academic coursework, research, publications, and grant activity related to the discipline.
  • Institutional Responsibility:
    Fulfill institutional responsibilities (e.g., department meetings, academic advising, accurate record keeping, timely grade submission); adhere to college and VCCS policies; maintain collegial relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Service:
    Participate in college representation, citizenship, and community citizenship activities and commit to quality service.
  • Flexible Scheduling:
    Responsibilities may include work during day, evening, weekend, and distance‑learning programs.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform additional duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government during an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Required Qualifications
  • Willingness to design and implement curriculum to support and improve student learning.
  • Ability to develop and adapt teaching strategies to accommodate diverse community college students.
  • Ability to use consistent, timely formative and summative assessments.
  • Experience with – or willingness to learn – proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
  • Willingness to incorporate emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods appropriately, including online and hybrid options.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingly stay current and continuously improve knowledge of the discipline.
  • Teaching experience preferred, especially at the community college level.
  • Proficiency in CANVAS and other learning management systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of occupational experience in auto body.
  • Certification: I‑CAR Pro Level 2®, Pro Level 3® or Platinum™ Pro Level 3; or ASE certifications in Non‑structural Repair, Structural Repair, Refinishing, Estimating.
  • Experience with dual enrollment programs and procedures related to Auto‑Body is preferred.
