General Description
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds. Teaching may be delivered in face‑to‑face, remote, or online formats. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and up to 8 credit hours in the summer session.
The contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.
- Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to NOVA and VCCS policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Maintain current competence in the discipline or field of specialization.
- Attend required meetings, submit required records and reports on time.
- Follow professional ethics standards as outlined by the college.
- Associate degree in the teaching field with demonstrated competencies OR appropriately related education and/or occupational certifications combined with substantial related experience.
- Qualifying academic degrees and coursework must be from a regionally accredited institution.
- A minimum of two years of full‑time related occupational experience (part‑time experience converted to full‑time equivalent).
- Possession or willingness to pass ASE in the field of instruction and ASE G1 prior to teaching.
- Experience with automotive program student recruitment and placement.
- ASE Master Technician certification.
- Four years of current employment within the automotive field.
- Prior teaching experience in higher education.
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
- Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment.
- Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying proficiency levels.
Must reside in the DC, VA, or MD DMV area.
