General Public. Class load: up to 12 credit hours fall/spring, up to 8 credit hours summer.

Work Schedule: Varies according to class schedules.

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in physics to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include face‑to‑face, remote, and online formats. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and/or up to 8 credit hours during the summer session. Teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs.

The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.

• Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
• Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
• Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
• Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
• Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.

Provide quality instruction by meeting assigned classes regularly, submitting required records and reports, teaching the prescribed courses with the established texts, and adhering to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.

Must reside in the DMV metro area, if selected for hire.

• Master’s Degree in Physics or a related field of study, OR a Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Physics.
• Prior experience teaching in higher education.
• Previous experience with introductory level astronomy courses.
• Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.

• Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
