Title:
Workforce Adjunct Instructor (SHRM)
Location: Multiple locations in the DC, VA, MD DMV area
Teaching Rate: $75 - $90 per teaching hour (base rate) – may vary by industry certifications
Work Schedule: Varies according to class schedules, primarily evenings and/or Saturdays
Employment Type: Part‑time adjunct faculty (no guarantee of continued employment)
- Teach SHRM Certification Prep+ class.
- Develop course syllabi using SHRM preparation instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to NOVA and VCCS policies, procedures and regulations.
- Maintain current competence in SHRM and/or closely related certifications.
- Provide quality instruction with established materials, meeting scheduled classes.
- Submit required records and reports routinely and adhere to the statement of professional ethics as per NOVA and VCCS policies.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned, including emergency response duties as directed by the Governor.
- Deep knowledge of SHRM preparation, including CP and SCP designations, and current workplace applications.
- Knowledge of Canvas/Blackboard or related LMS for instruction (assignments, quizzes, discussion boards, gradebook, modules).
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment.
- Excellent organizational, classroom management, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction for groups of varying ages and skill levels.
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
- Two (2) years of teaching experience in SHRM preparation.
- Experience training adult learners.
- Experience using learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).
- Credentialed in SHRM‑SCP, CHRL, or SPHR.
- Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
- Experience working with and teaching people from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
Telework: No telework options; subject to change based on business needs.
Travel: None required.
