Adjunct Communications Faculty (Part-Time) – Introduction to Human Communication
Join Southside Virginia Community College to teach CST 110:
Introduction to Human Communication, a UCGS transfer course that examines the elements affecting human communication in individual, small group, and public contexts. The successful candidate will be committed to SVCC’s mission of delivering high‑quality education to the Southside community.
Specific Duties
- Examine elements affecting human communication in intrapersonal, interpersonal, small group, and public contexts.
- Emphasize the practice and development of communication skills across all identified contexts.
- Facilitate college-level reading and analysis of scholarly studies.
- Oversee the production of coherent written reports, including at least one APA/MLA‑formatted individual writing assignment.
- Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high‑quality course materials align with college standards.
- Maintain engagement through the college’s Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for the online portion of the course.
- Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
- May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Communication, Speech, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams.
- Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
- Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.
- Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face‑to‑face and online/hybrid modalities.
- Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom, and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Experience working with community college students.
- Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
