Sociology Adjunct Faculty

Location:

Virginia Beach Campus (required to teach on all four campuses: Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth,Virginia Beach) | Pay: $793–$1,375 per credit hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

• Create a learning environment that facilitates student acquisition of knowledge and skills.
• Align course activities with learning outcomes and employ active learning strategies and technology.
• Deliver instruction supporting stated learning outcomes, adhere to policies for student surveys of instruction, assess learning early, and develop action plans based on evaluations.
• Perform work during day, evenings, or weekends as determined by courses assigned.
• Hold at least one office hour per week for each course assigned.

• Master’s Degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Comparative Sociology, Applied Sociology, or graduate degree with 18 graduate semester hours in one of these fields.
• Ability to communicate effectively in electronic formats.

• Teaching experience at the college level.
• Familiarity with Canvas or other learning management systems.
• Experience with proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
• Proficiency in instructional technology to support learning tools and resources.

Selected candidates must complete a comprehensive criminal background investigation, including fingerprint checks, agency and employment verification, education verification, credit checks (where relevant), I‑9 and E‑Verify requirements, and Commonwealth’s Statement of Economic Interest.
