Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds is seeking a full‑time nine‑month Opticianry teaching faculty within the School of Health Professions. Faculty loads are normally scheduled on an average load of fifteen (15) credit hours per semester. Office hours, advising and collateral duty assignments are maintained. Teaching schedules may include day, evening or weekend classes and multiple campus and off‑campus assignments. This is a year‑round program; summer teaching assignments are optional.

General duties and responsibilities of this faculty position include, but are not limited to: supporting and achieving strategic objectives for the program that are consistent with, and supportive of, college and school strategic goals; participating in the selection and mentorship process for adjunct faculty; coordinating distance clinical education course offerings; managing equipment related to laboratories and clinical instruction; academic program advising;

participating in program assessment and curriculum revisions; growing program enrollment through increased marketing and recruitment efforts; and marketing and promoting the program in the community, particularly with local K‑12 systems.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

• Associate’s degree in Opticianry.
• Minimum of two (2) years of occupational experience in the field of ophthalmic optics.
• Current or eligible for Virginia state optician license.
• American Board of Opticianry and/or National Contact Lens Examiners certification(s).
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

• Advanced certifications by the American Board of Opticianry or National Contact Lens Examiners.
• Knowledge of classroom and conference electronic methods of communication.
• Knowledge of program structure, curriculum design, and academic advising.
• Experience in COA accreditation compliance and documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in both the didactic and clinical settings, including course development, student assessment, and course evaluation.
• Teaching experience in an accredited opticianry program.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize computer word processing, cloud drives, and spreadsheets.
• Demonstrated ability to utilize technology routinely in instructional and faculty responsibilities, including Canvas, virtual meeting software, and People Soft.
• Experience with distance learning modalities for both didactic and clinical courses.

No state vehicle operation, no supervisors, no required travel. Travel between campuses as needed.

This is a restricted position that is dependent upon funding. The availability of funding is scheduled to end on June 30, 2029, but may be extended based on the continuation of funding. Continued employment is…
