Adjunct Foundations of Drawing Faculty (Part‑Time) – part‑time hybrid instruction for ART 121 Foundations of Drawing at Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) in Brunswick, VA. The Fall 2026 semester runs from August 17 to December 15, 2026, with scheduled classes on the Christanna and John H. Daniel campuses.
Responsibilities- Introduce and demonstrate core drawing concepts such as line, proportion, space, perspective, value, and composition.
- Apply drawing concepts to subject matter including still life, landscape, and the figure.
- Instruct students in the use of various media, such as pencil, charcoal, and ink wash.
- Organize field trips and gallery assignments as appropriate to the curriculum.
- Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high‑quality course materials align with college standards.
- Maintain engagement through the college’s Canvas Learning Management System for the online portion of the course.
- Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Assist agency or state government during an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art.
- Clear demonstration of drawing skill adequate to teach the course.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams.
- Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
- Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.
- Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face‑to‑face and online/hybrid modalities.
- Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom, and Canvas Learning Management System.
- Experience working with community college students.
- Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
