Assistant Director of Undergraduate Recruitment

Help shape the next generation of business leaders n the School of Business as an Assistant Director of Undergraduate Recruitment, building relationships with prospective students, leading impactful recruitment events, and driving enrollment growth in a dynamic, student-focused environment.

Overall responsibilities:

  • Work alongside the Director of Recruitment and Enrollment Management to support and further all business recruitment and admissions-related efforts.
  • Responsibilities and tasks to support all stages of the full recruitment cycle: prospect, applicant, admit, enrolled.
  • Other duties - the omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are related to the position.

External undergraduate recruitment and yield efforts:

  • Establish relationships with students, parents, counselors, and teachers interested in learning more about undergraduate programs in the School of Business.
  • Meet in-person and virtually with prospective and admitted students and their guests to provide information about the school, admissions process, curriculum, and more.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to all phone, email, and in-person inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Proactively outreach to current target markets to attract potential students, including high school business classes and clubs, community-based organizations, and more.
  • Represent the School of Business at university admissions-sponsored special events, including receptions, counselor breakfasts, and more.
  • Coordinate and execute on-campus recruitment and yield events: open houses, preview days, high school visits, information sessions, and other recruitment-related activities with prospective and admitted students.
  • Coordinate and execute high school and community college visits.
  • Travel, oftentimes overnight, to university admissions-sponsored recruitment and yield events each semester. Current areas include Northern VA, VA Beach, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New York, and areas may expand.
  • Register and travel to high school business-related conferences such as DECA and FBLA.
  • Carve pathways for additional travel opportunities to connect with more business prospects and admits.

Internal undergraduate recruitment and yield efforts:

  • Evaluate data and applicant credentials for first-year and transfer applications in Slate.
  • Utilize Slate CRM for visit and event registration and tracking, email campaigns, maintaining all student inquiry information, data collection, and more.
  • Conduct call and email campaigns at various points in the admissions cycle, including students who have been admitted but haven't accepted, students who have submitted an application but are missing materials, and more.
  • Serves as a liaison to School of Business faculty and staff, university undergraduate admissions, campus partners in other academic units, transfer center, and adult and non-traditional student services.
  • Serve as co-advisor to recruit, train, and manage the Business Student Ambassadors (BSA).
  • Coordinate the development of new recruitment techniques and events to reach more prospective and admitted students.
  • Collaborate with the School of Business communications and marketing department and VCU's enterprise marketing and communications team to create social media content, collateral pieces such as our yearly viewbooks, photo collections, and more.
  • Manage mailings to inquiring students, admitted students, offer accepted students, event attendees, and more.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience working with high school and/or college students and student groups: college admissions, recruitment, advising, teaching, counseling, student affairs, etc.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience working with office software, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Experience in special event and project planning.
  • Ability to work outside traditional work hours, including periodic evenings and weekends.
  • Occasional overnight travel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in higher education
  • Experience with admissions/recruitment CRM, Slate preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with high school and/or college students and student groups: college admissions, recruitment, advising, teaching, counseling, student affairs, etc.
