English Adjunct (Summer and Fall 2026)
English Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in English to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Instruction will be delivered both in‑person and online. Adjunct faculty are employed to teach up to 12 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters and up to 8 credit hours during the summer session. Additional benefits and salary are determined in accordance with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) rates and the candidate’s academic credentials and experience.
Dutiesand Tasks
- Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of GCC and the VCCS.
- Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
Provide quality instruction by meeting assigned classes regularly, submitting required records and reports routinely, teaching the prescribed courses of study with the established texts, and adhering to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.
Required Qualifications (KSA's)- Master’s Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in English.
- Ability to effectively teach both in‑person and online.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to use instructional technology.
- Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools.
- Prior teaching experience.
- Work experience in the field.
- Experience with online teaching.
- Substantial, proven experience with innovative teaching and developing online courses in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments at a regionally accredited institution.
