Sensitive Position No Job Description Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board.

The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.

Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for adjunct instructors to teach Clinical Nursing in the hospital environment. We are seeking applicants available for nursing clinical instruction for daytime and/or evenings and/or weekends. Salary is based on the academic preparation and work experience of the applicant and is determined according to the VCCS Adjunct Pay Schedule and the VCCS-29 Faculty Ranking Profile.

Duties And Tasks

• Teach specific classes in the designated discipline in a classroom/virtual/clinical environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.
• Develop course syllabi and instructional materials, delivering high-quality instruction, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and actively contributing to the academic, professional, and community life of the college.
• Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
• Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of MECC while emphasizing instructional excellence through innovative teaching practices, curriculum development, and assessment.
• Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization, committing to continuous professional growth aligned with the college’s mission and goals.

Essential Functions

As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Minimum required qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing with demonstrated competency in the teaching field to teach in the RN program; associate’s degree in nursing with demonstrated competency in the teaching field to teach in the LPN program if working on a bachelor’s degree in nursing..
• Must hold a current license or a multi-state licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia as a registered nurse.
• Have had two years of direct client care experience as a registered nurse.
• Maintained documentation of professional competence through activities such as nursing practice, education programs, conferences. etc.
