Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The Coordinator of Student Life & Leadership is responsible for creating, implementing, sustaining, and assessing a comprehensive student engagement and leadership development program that advances student success, fosters a culture of belonging, and enhances the overall student experience. Through the intentional application of student development theory, high-impact educational practices, and co-curricular learning, the coordinator designs meaningful opportunities that support students’ academic, personal, social, and leadership development.
This position collaborates extensively with colleagues across Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and the surrounding community to cultivate an engaging campus environment where students feel connected, supported, and empowered to achieve their educational and personal goals. The coordinator also serves as a key ambassador for Student Life by promoting programs, communicating student engagement opportunities, and strengthening the visibility and impact of co-curricular experiences throughout the college.
MajorDuties & Responsibilities Student Engagement & Student Success
- Develop, implement, and assess innovative student engagement initiatives that foster belonging, leadership development, holistic wellness, and student persistence.
- Utilize student development theory, high-impact educational practices, and current research to design meaningful co-curricular learning experiences that complement students’ academic journeys.
- Develop intentional co-curricular learning outcomes and assessment strategies that demonstrate the impact of student engagement on student success.
Create inclusive programs and experiences that encourage students from all backgrounds to become active participants in the college community.
- Foster an environment where every student feels welcomed, valued, connected, and empowered to succeed.
- Design and facilitate comprehensive leadership development opportunities that strengthen students’ leadership competencies, civic responsibility, and personal growth.
- Provide consultative support and guidance to departments seeking to incorporate leadership development and student engagement into their programming.
- Support and advise Student Government Association (SGA), Student Clubs & Organizations, the Inter-Club Council, and other recognized student organizations while promoting student leadership and organizational effectiveness.
