Children and their families are at the heart of ministry at Shady Grove United Methodist Church. The Director of Children and Family Ministries will be an energetic, relational, and spiritually mature leader who is passionate about helping young people and their families connect with the church, grow in their faith, and serve God and other people in life-giving ways.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), salaried position.
The Director of Children and Family Ministries will be present for 9:30am and 11:00am Worship on Sunday mornings, weekly staff meetings, and regular programs, events, and trips with children and adults from the congregation.
SUPERVISION
The Director of Children and Family Ministries will provide leadership as part of a ministry team committed to Shady Grove’s mission of Belonging, Becoming, and Blessing. Supervision will be provided by the Lead Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations committee. All members of the Shady Grove UMC ministry team participate in a 90-day introductory review with the Lead Pastor to celebrate successes, establish goals, and identify areas for continued growth.
Following this time, performance evaluations will be conducted annually.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Commitment to the faith and teachings of The United Methodist Church
- Leadership experience in children’s ministry or education
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Ability to self-initiate projects, work well with others, and maintain confidentiality
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and empower volunteers
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent ministry experience required
- Flexibility, compassion, and kindness
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner with pastors, staff, and lay leaders to support Shady Grove’s mission and ministry.
- Collaborate with church leaders and volunteers to oversee a large and active children’s ministry.
- Manage annual Children’s Ministry budget.
- Recruit, equip, schedule, and celebrate volunteers in all areas of children’s ministry.
- Lead Children’s Message during weekly worship services.
- Provide vision, leadership, and oversight for weekly Children’s Own Worship service.
- Coordinate teachers, curriculum, and administration of children’s Sunday School program.
- Oversee Nursery ministry, including staffing, volunteer development, scheduling, and safety procedures.
- Lead G3:
Grow, Go, Give program for students in grades 3-5. - Plan and lead community children’s events, including Vacation Bible School, summer camps, Christmas and Easter celebrations, and mission projects.
- Partner with pastors to coordinate and lead chapel time at Shady Grove UMC Preschool.
- Provide opportunities for families to grow in faith together.
- Partner with Director of Youth Ministries to connect rising middle school students and families with youth ministry at Shady Grove.
- Provide clear and consistent communication through social media, church publications, and other methods.
- Coordinate ministry calendar with church staff and leaders.
- Ensure compliance with Shady Grove’s Safe Sanctuaries policy at all times.
BENEFITS
- Salary Range: $50,000-$55,000, commensurate with experience
