Description of the Job:
This adjunct position will teach an undergraduate course entitled“Introduction to Electromagnetic Fields” in the spring semester of2027. The course provides an introduction to the concept ofelectromagnetic fields. Topics include electrostatics,magneto statics, scalar and vector potentials, and work and energyin fields, as well as the analysis and understanding of thephenomena associated with static electric and magnetic fields.
Laboratory exercises will serve to reinforce students’understanding of fields and train them in methods to measure,quantify and analyze electromagnetic phenomena.
- Preparing and delivering lectures in alignment with current course-level learning objectives
- Preparing and assigning homework problems and exams related to thecourse
- Grading homework problems and exams and assigning final coursegrades
- Collecting assessment data and sample student work, asneeded
- Holding office hours; answering student questions; and providing timely responses to email, as needed
- Ph.D. in Engineering or a related field from an accredited program
- Strong working knowledge of system thinking, system design thinking, and life cycle design and management with an emphasis onabstracting and modeling system complexity to develop a holistic and realistic system representation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism, and civility with a population offaculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences,or a commitment to do so as an adjunct at VCU.
- - Previous experience in the field of electromagnetics.
