Job SummaryDominion Energy Greensville Power Station seeks a highly motivated Instrument Technician I, II, or III. There is one position available that will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Inspect, test, service, repair, configure, calibrate, and install indicating, recording, and automatic control instruments such as flow meters, pressure gauges, thermometers, regulators, systems, and similar components in a power station.
- Locate cause of defective performance of instruments, report findings to supervisor, and replace component parts as required.
- Use portable pressure gauges, manometer, and other similar test equipment. Perform preventive maintenance.
- Test flue gas, read meters, and record data as required. This level works on complex and detailed systems and equipment.
- Perform required engineering functions for control loop modifications.
- Maintain drawings and configuration documentation as related to instrumentation.
- Act as project leader for control system upgrades and/or modifications.
- May train and guide less experienced Instrument Technicians.
Specific business unit duties may include the following:
Responsible for performing advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation and control systems within offshore wind farms. At this level, the technician is highly proficient in the operation of systems on the wind turbines and both the onshore and offshore substations such as sensors, transmitters, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) used in operations. The Technician takes on more specialized and complex tasks, leading critical upgrades, managing instrumentation during turbine startup and shutdown, and overseeing major system integrations.
The role also includes providing leadership and mentorship to lower-level technicians, ensuring that all instrumentation work meets the highest safety and compliance standards. In addition to technical tasks, the Technician III plays a key role in compliance efforts with internal and external standards, such as NERC, and is responsible for detailed daily reporting, including maintaining operational logbooks and support in regulatory audits.
This position demands a proactive and safety-conscious approach to working in a challenging and dynamic offshore environment, ensuring the reliability and safety of critical wind generation systems while adhering to industry standards and best practices. Understanding of the basic electric grid, including transmission and substation operations, as well as knowledge of NERC compliance, including evidence collection and documentation, is essential for maintaining the integrity and regulatory compliance of offshore wind operations.
