Overview

QE Solar is a solar operations and maintenance company that focuses on maximizing asset uptime, safety, and return on investment for PV and battery storage (BESS) projects. QE Solar manages well over 3GWs of PV/BESS projects and hundreds of employees, delivering reliable asset service from coast-to-coast with an owner’s mindset and a sense of urgency.

Position

As a Solar Field Technician at QE Solar, you will provide ongoing field services support to multiple solar, BESS, or other renewable energy systems on a continual/on-demand basis to optimize equipment performance, troubleshoot/resolve equipment issues, support emergency repairs, and provide ongoing O&M compliance support. You will assist with routine site inspections, maintenance projects, equipment and system testing, and other project compliance.

Field Service Technicians participate in field support, training, and project safety orientations/classes to develop skills in one or multiple disciplines including PV array, inverter, medium voltage, BESS, and other solar services. Operations leads and solar engineers will provide coaching and training and qualify technicians for field operations.

Essential Duties
  • Diagnose and repair system failures at existing solar sites; identify and correct issues that may impact site performance; provide real-time solutions to site operations issues and support warranty matters for equipment and systems; install, remove, troubleshoot, and maintain solar, BESS and related electrical equipment.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to company and client safety protocols and regulations; ensure compliance with safety requirements and best practices (e.g., lock-out/tag-out, JHA completion, LDL testing, and safety policies).
  • Prepare service tickets and reports for site visits, emergency repairs, equipment modifications, and investigations; provide timely written and oral communications.
  • Communicate with technical leads, project leads/managers, and third-party sub-contractors to ensure timely resolution of activities; support performance improvements and address site safety and compliance concerns; other responsibilities as directed by manager.
Education
  • High School or Technical School Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience; veterans or military-experienced candidates encouraged to apply.
Experience
  • 0-2+ years of specialist, technical experience with solar projects, BESS, or other renewable systems; experience with data acquisition systems.
Experience Preferred
  • Experience working with 600V-1500V systems; strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and NFPA 70E; proficiency with technology and computing platforms; C&I/Utility Scale solar work experience; experience with operations of solar sites and/or project maintenance and compliance.
Specialized Or Technical Knowledge Licenses, Certifications Preferred
  • Inverter and/or BESS manufacturers’ certifications (e.g., Sun Grow, Power Electronics, Solectria, BYD) a plus
  • Thermography certifications (Level
    1)
  • IT/networking skills: RS485, Modbus, TCP/IP
  • NABCEP PV Installer Certification
  • OSHA 10/30 Certification
  • NFPA 70E courses
  • CPR/First Aid
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 25/50/80 pounds regularly
  • Ability to move safely over uneven terrain
  • Ability to sit or drive for prolonged periods
  • Ability to climb ladders safely while carrying up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in extreme weather
Travel Requirements
  • Extensive travel regionally and occasionally nationally to meet client field operation needs
