Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Protection & Control (P&C) Technician to support the testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical power systems across utility, industrial, renewable energy, and mission-critical facilities. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and safe operation of substations, protective relaying systems, switch gear, transformers, and associated control equipment.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience performing relay testing, electrical commissioning, acceptance testing, and field troubleshooting within utility, transmission, distribution, power generation, or industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform testing, calibration, commissioning, and maintenance of protective relays and control systems.
  • Execute functional testing of protection and control schemes within substations and electrical facilities.
  • Conduct acceptance and maintenance testing of transformers, circuit breakers, switch gear, batteries, and associated equipment.
  • Utilize testing equipment such as Omicron, Doble, Megger, and related platforms.
  • Troubleshoot protection, control, metering, communication, and SCADA systems.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and protection drawings.
  • Verify relay settings and implement protection logic modifications.
  • Support substation energization, startup, outage, and commissioning activities.
  • Prepare detailed testing reports, commissioning documentation, and field service records.
  • Ensure compliance with NETA standards, OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, utility personnel, and field crews to successfully execute projects.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in protection and control, relay testing, electrical testing, or substation commissioning.
  • Experience supporting utility, transmission, distribution, industrial, or power generation facilities.
  • Knowledge of protective relaying principles and power system operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NETA ATS Level II, III, or IV Certification.
  • Experience with SEL, GE Multilin, Siemens, ABB, or Basler relays.
  • Omicron, Doble, and Megger testing experience.
  • High-voltage substation commissioning experience.
  • Utility startup and energization experience.
  • Familiarity with NERC, NFPA 70E, and OSHA standards.
  • Arc Flash and Electrical Safety training.

Work Environment

  • Occasional overtime, outage work, weekends, and emergency response assignments may be required.
