Whatyou will be doing
The Intermediate Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design and documentation of high-mix, custom industrial motor control panels including VFD panels, soft starter panels, MCC buckets, and custom control enclosures. This role focuses on producing shop-ready, buildable designs that meet customer specifications, applicable codes, and internal quality standards.
The position works closely with panel builders, purchasing, testing, and project management to support projects from order intake through Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and final as-built documentation.
Some key responsibilities include:
- Design custom motor control panels (VFD, soft starter, combination starters, bypass systems)
- Produce complete shop packages including schematics, panel layouts, terminal plans, wiring schedules, and BOMs
- Select and apply motor control components such as drives, starters, breakers, fuses, reactors, filters, and braking resistors
- Ensure compliance with CSA, UL, UL508A, NEC, CEC, and customer standards
- Provide direct engineering support to panel builders during assembly and wiring
- Support point-to-point checks and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
- Resolve build issues and incorporate redlines and as-built documentation
- Contribute to standard drawings, templates, and preferred parts lists
- Other responsibilities, as required
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electrical Engineering
- 5–8 years of experience in a panel shop, OEM, or systems integrator environment
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent
- Strong understanding of industrial motor control, VFDs, and soft starters
- Experience designing for high-mix, custom panel builds
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a production-driven environment
