Role Description

Arcadis is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Climate Adaptation and Water Management Team in Virginia Beach or Richmond, Virginia. As a Structural Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering engineering and consulting services for a variety of projects, including flood risk reduction, waterfront infrastructure resilience, dam safety, lock and navigation structure design, and more.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct structural analysis, design, and engineering during construction services for climate adaptation projects, including seismic risk reduction, flood mitigation, and infrastructure resilience initiatives.
  • Conduct structural‑related engineering investigations, calculations, and planning work within a well‑defined scope.
  • Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions and regulatory agency specifications.
  • Develop calculations, plans, specifications, requests for proposals, and other contract documents.
  • Work directly with engineering disciplines, office/project staff, clients and sub‑contractors throughout the project life cycle, and communicate clearly in oral and written form.
  • Exercise judgment on work details and preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
  • Function as Design Lead, Task Manager or Project Engineer, managing budgets, schedules, deliverables, plans, permit checklists and scopes of work, and facilitate coordination for timely completion.
  • Travel may be required for project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, planning purposes or to oversee construction activities.
  • Mentor entry‑level and junior structural engineering staff.
Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications
  • 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience in designing flood walls, flood gates, retaining wall structures, and deep foundations, particularly on federal resiliency projects. A Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is a plus, along with progressive experience in infrastructure projects related to water management, flood control, and seismic resilience. Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as STAAD, MathCAD, AutoCAD, and Revit is also helpful for this role.

Salary Range

$80,000 – $132,000 per year, depending on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
