Required Experience: 8+ years of relevant engineering experience (An Engineering PhD can be substituted for up to 5 years’ experience based on research engineering work on related projects approved by executive leadership.)
Responsibilities- Provide engineering support for the combustion of solid fuel, both coal and biomass, emphasizing all associated Air Pollution Control (APC) equipment.
- Engage fuel procurement team and provide technical guidance during fuel contract renewal.
- Review fuel contracts, ensuring certain fuel quality specifications are met for each of the solid fuel boilers in the fleet during contract negotiations, and negotiating and setting reject limits for critical constituents in the fuel for all future solid fuel contracts.
- Provide engineering guidance on which constituents in the fuel can have a positive or negative impact on all equipment associated with fuel handling, fuel delivery, boiler combustion, boiler cleaning, ash removal, waste disposal, and the performance of associated APC equipment for the control of NOx, Acid Gases (SO₂, SO₃, HCl, etc.), PM, and Hg.
- Provide engineering support on the sootblowing systems for the coal and biomass boilers in the fleet.
- Understand the PJM dispatch cost calculations methodology to assist the Fuels, Energy Supply and Strategic Planning groups with their regulatory commitments.
- Provide engineering support for the current Wet FGDs, Dry Scrubbers, Hg Control systems in the fleet and be the SME if any Dry Sorbent Injection (DSI) systems are considered in the future.
- Engage with industry suppliers and manufacturers.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
