Job Summary:
The Senior Structural Engineer I (PE) is a licensed professional engineer responsible for leading technical aspects of engineering projects. This role involves providing expert-level technical guidance, ensuring that designs meet client expectations and regulatory requirements. The Senior Engineer I oversees the technical development of projects, mentoring junior staff, and serving as a subject matter expert in the field.
PrimaryEssential Functions:
Lead the development of engineering designs for complex projects, providing technical oversight and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Prepare detailed engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project goals.
Provide technical guidance to project teams, reviewing drawings, specifications, and calculations to ensure that designs are feasible, accurate, and compliant.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate engineering systems into architectural or construction projects, ensuring seamless coordination with other design disciplines.
Mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical leadership and fostering professional development within the team.
Conduct quality control reviews at key project stages, ensuring that all deliverables meet internal and client standards for accuracy and technical precision.
Participate in client meetings and presentations, providing expert technical input and ensuring that client expectations are met.
Oversee construction administration tasks, including reviewing submittals, conducting site visits, and resolving technical issues during construction.

Extensive knowledge of engineering principles, building systems, and construction methods.
Familiarity with local, state, and federal building codes and zoning regulations.
Understanding of project documentation processes, construction administration, and regulatory compliance.
Awareness of sustainability practices and industry certifications (e.g., LEED).
Proficiency in design software and engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Solid Works).
Strong technical drafting and detailing skills for preparing precise engineering documents.
Advanced problem-solving skills for addressing technical challenges.
Leadership and mentoring skills for guiding junior engineers and project teams.
Communication skills for client interactions and technical presentations.
Organizational skills for managing multiple tasks and ensuring timely project delivery.
Willing to travel for 1 to 2 weeks at a time, totaling 5 to 10 trips per year.
Ability to lead technical aspects of projects and provide expert-level guidance to teams.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to perform quality control reviews and ensure that designs meet regulatory standards.
Ability to manage time effectively and meet project deadlines.
Ability to mentor junior staff and foster a collaborative, learning environment.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or SE Licensure
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- 7-10 years of experience in engineering design and project management.
- Experience in fuels projects is highly preferred, and experience in building and industrial design is a plus
- Candidates should be familiar with federal project design and reviewing procedures.
- Ability to select and utilize various structural design software as needed for different projects, such as RISA, RAM, Tedds, CAESAR, etc.
- Ability to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
- Frequent use of standard office equipment, including computers, keyboards, telephones, and printers.
- Occasional light physical activity such as walking, standing, or carrying materials (up to 25lbs.).
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, over the phone, and through written communication.
