Description
The Commodity Manager – Data Center Electrical Components is responsible for end-to-end category management of critical electrical infrastructure components supporting large-scale data center deployments. This role drives sourcing strategy, supplier performance, cost optimization, and supply continuity across key categories including transformers, metering systems, wiring harnesses, busway interfaces, and related assemblies.
Operating cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Construction, and Supply Chain teams, this position plays a critical role in supporting scalable, reliable, and cost-effective infrastructure solutions. The Commodity Manager will develop sourcing strategies, manage supplier relationships, mitigate supply chain risk, and support Hyper’s rapidly growing data center infrastructure business.
Core Responsibilities- Develop and execute sourcing strategies for critical electrical component categories including transformers, metering systems, wiring harnesses, cables, and interconnect assemblies
- Build category roadmaps aligned with standardization, modular infrastructure strategies, and long-term growth initiatives
- Conduct market analysis related to raw materials, manufacturing capacity, lead times, and supplier capabilities
- Establish long-term agreements (LTAs) and preferred supplier partnerships to support supply continuity and cost optimization
- Manage strategic supplier relationships including OEMs, contract manufacturers, and integration partners
- Lead supplier performance initiatives focused on cost, quality, delivery, responsiveness, and technical support
- Develop should-cost models and total cost of ownership (TCO) analyses to support sourcing decisions and negotiations
- Lead commercial negotiations related to pricing, lead times, payment terms, and supply agreements
- Monitor and mitigate supply chain risks including material shortages, logistics disruptions, and capacity constraints
- Support implementation of dual-source and multi-source strategies for critical components
- Partner with Engineering teams to standardize component specifications and improve manufacturability
- Collaborate with Construction and Operations teams to support project schedules and lifecycle considerations
- Support supplier quality audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Drive sustainability and ESG initiatives related to energy efficiency, recyclable materials, and supplier compliance
- Lead quarterly business reviews (QBRs) and supplier performance reviews
- Managing supplier relationships and coordinating sourcing activities across multiple electrical component categories
- Analyzing market conditions, material pricing trends, and supplier performance metrics
- Negotiating pricing, contracts, lead times, and commercial terms with suppliers
- Coordinating with engineering and operations teams on product specifications and supply requirements
- Supporting risk mitigation planning and supply continuity strategies
- Tracking cost savings, supplier KPIs, and sourcing performance against business objectives
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related field
- 5–10+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or commodity management
- Experience sourcing electrical components, industrial equipment, or critical infrastructure products
- Strong negotiation, supplier management, and analytical skills
- Experience developing sourcing strategies and managing supplier performance initiatives
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Experience supporting data center, utility, or mission-critical infrastructure industries
- Knowledge of electrical systems and components including transformers, metering systems, wiring assemblies, and power distribution infrastructure
- Familiarity with global OEMs, contract manufacturers, and international supply chains
- MBA or advanced technical degree
- Experience supporting modular or prefabricated infrastructure programs
