Application Engineer – Richmond, VA
Reports to:
Project & Application Engineering Manager.
Position Summary:
This role requires working knowledge of KSB products and processes, industry standards, and the ability to navigate complex project specifications. The candidate will utilize this knowledge to complete and manage quotations for pumps and auxiliary equipment focusing on “Engineered Business” within the Energy market segment. Employee needs to develop close relationships with the KSB Sales Personnel, local KSB Supply Chain and Operations personnel, KSB Factories, and local US suppliers of auxiliary equipment.
- Generate and manage multiple Engineered Business project quotations at a fast pace. Candidate should be able to quote projects directly or provide pass‑through support to our other KSB Offices.
- Primary business focuses on the Energy (ENY) market areas (i.e., Power Generation), but the candidate will be expected to support General Industry (e.g., Steel Mills and Paper Mills, and potentially Petrochemical Chemical (PCC) market areas as necessary).
- Provide technical responses to local KSB personnel, KSB factories, sub‑suppliers, and customers.
- Use KSB tools to provide pump technical information such as data sheets, speed curves, drawings, etc.
- Interact with vendors for buyouts.
- Understand/translate drawings and specifications.
- Compile costing for all equipment and project needs and work with KSB Sales Personnel to create customer quotations.
- Stay abreast of company offerings (products and services), Tools and Systems.
- Support AE Manager with routine reporting on key performance metrics.
- Maintain departmental filing and records.
- Perform other Application Engineering responsibilities as assigned.

- Computer skills – familiarity with and effective use of all applicable MS Office applications, KSB Selection tools and AutoCAD.

- Social perceptiveness – awareness of others’ reactions and interpretation; ability to convey appropriate responses and interface effectively with internal and external partners.
- Written expression – ability to communicate and convey information and ideas so others understand.

- Intuitive – identify potential problems and address them before they become issues; creative in identifying solutions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Technical aptitude (advanced level) – applicable to requirements shown in Position Skills Matrix.
- Develop and maintain knowledge and working experience with mechanical equipment or auxiliary equipment.
B.S. degree in Engineering with at least two years of experience in centrifugal pump engineering and application. Knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
