Position
Bridge Engineer – Richmond, VA
Responsibilities- Prepare designs and contract documents for the repair or replacement of various types of bridge structures.
- Provide support during construction, including reviewing shop drawings.
- Perform in‑service condition inspections of highway bridges, document defects, and prepare reports.
- Complete computations to calculate load ratings of various bridge types.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Master’s degree is a plus.
- 5–10 years of relevant experience required.
- Professional Engineer license in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or the ability to obtain registration through comity within six months.
- Experience designing bridge projects and assembling complete sets of contract documents.
- Strong knowledge of VDOT policies, procedures, and AASHTO bridge specifications.
- Proficiency with bridge design software; hands‑on experience with Micro Station/GEOPAK/Open Bridge software.
- NBIS‑certified bridge inspection team leader with current NHI‑130055 (Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges) certification is a plus.
- Experience with VDOT bridge safety inspections is a plus.
- Positive attitude, willingness to work cooperatively, and excellent communication and organization skills.
- Ability to travel in‑state and out‑of‑state as needed.
