Non-Destructive Examination Specialist / Senior NDE Specialist 12-Month Contract-to Hire Hybrid Schedule | Multiple Nuclear Site Locations | Nuclear NDE/NDT Engineering Project Description
Our client's Nuclear Fleet Engineering & Programs (FP&C) organization supports the safety, reliability, and long-term operation of the company’s nuclear generating stations. The NDE team serves as the fleet-wide subject matter experts for Non-Destructive Examination (NDE/NDT) programs, inspections, code compliance, and regulatory support. This group works closely with plant engineering, maintenance, operations, vendors, and regulatory bodies to ensure the integrity and safety of critical nuclear components.
The team is hiring two NDE professionals at either the NDE Specialist or Senior NDE Specialist level depending on experience, certifications, and technical expertise.
Acts as the fleet-level technical SME for nuclear NDE programs and advanced inspection methodologies.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and updating Dominion’s NDE procedures to ensure ASME, ANSI, ASNT, and NRC compliance
- Leading NDE training and certification programs for internal and contract personnel
- Serving as the technical authority for interpretation of NDE results and repair recommendations
- Supporting NRC audits, regulatory reviews, and surveillance activities
- Reviewing and approving vendor/contractor NDE procedures and programs
- Developing new examination techniques to support evolving regulatory requirements
- Administering qualification and certification programs for fleet NDE staff
Provides technical support and inspection oversight for nuclear plant components and NDE programs.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and maintaining NDE procedures and inspection documentation
- Auditing vendors and contractors for compliance with Dominion procedures and industry standards
- Supporting NDE inspectors and plant departments with technical guidance and interpretation of results
- Assisting with NDE training and qualification programs
- Performing advanced NDE inspections on power plant components
- Supporting outage activities, inspections, and asset integrity evaluations
- Nuclear Non-Destructive Examination (NDE/NDT)
- ASME, ANSI, and ASNT code interpretation
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
- Radiographic Testing (RT)
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
- Eddy Current Testing (ET)
- Visual Testing (VT)
- Nuclear outage support and in-service inspections
- Vendor oversight and inspection procedure reviews
- Technical documentation and regulatory compliance
- Strong communication and stakeholder coordination
- 5+ years of direct NDE experience within the nuclear power industry
- Deep expertise across multiple NDE methodologies and nuclear inspection applications
- Strong knowledge of fabrication and in-service inspection requirements
- Experience acting as a technical authority or SME
- Proven ability to influence teams and drive operational excellence
- 3+ years of direct NDE experience within nuclear power
- Experience supporting inspections, procedures, and compliance programs
- Familiarity with nuclear plant systems and component evaluations
- Ability to communicate technical findings clearly across engineering and operations groups
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or scientific discipline
- Engineering backgrounds commonly aligned to the role include:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.
Certifications Senior NDE SpecialistRequired:
- Level III NDE Certification in four of the following methods:
- UT-III
- RT-III
- MT-III
- PT-III
- VT-III
- ET-III
Required:
- Level III Certification in at least two methods
- Level II Certification in at least two additional methods
Preferred Site Locations:
- Millstone Power Station
- Surry Power Station
Additional Possible Locations:
- Mineral
- 3 days onsite
- 2 days remote
- Travel: 26–50%
