We are currently seeking to fill a position for an Environmental Technician in our Richmond, VA office. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to obtain and evaluate environmental data. Perform groundwater, soil, and surface water sampling; submit samples to a laboratory for analysis; manage and evaluate field and lab data and prepare reports. This individual may also assist with landfill gas boundary probe monitoring and maintenance.
Job Responsibilities
- Determines contaminant levels in groundwater, surface water, soil, and leachate by collecting samples and submitting them to a lab for analysis.
- Maintains environmental database by entering analytical data into project spreadsheets.
- Assists with report preparation by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and data.
- Documents field activities and data by completing field data forms and logs.
- Performs landfill gas monitoring by monitoring landfill gas boundary probes and ambient air.
- Identifies concerns by surveying and recording site conditions and making recommendations.
- Ensures equipment operation by maintaining equipment in accordance with manufacturer's instructions; conducting preventative maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Ensures availability of field supplies by monitoring inventory and maintaining adequate supplies for anticipated needs.
- Prepares deliverables on time and within budget.
- Capable of collecting, recording, and organizing field data in a concise manner.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, geology, chemistry, or applied sciences, or through experience in environmental technical field.
- Initial 40-hour OSHA training required, and annual 8-hour refresher courses thereafter (provided by company).
- Computer skills (word processing, database, spreadsheet, hydrogeologic modeling) required; field equipment use and maintenance.
- Ideal candidate has the traits of a team player who is enthusiastic about all aspects of engineering and project management and can lead projects from planning and preliminary engineering through design and construction.
- Must have good communication skills, be a team player and be able to relate well to project team, clients and contractors.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift and carry or otherwise move up to 80 pounds.
- Move safely over uneven terrain.
- Traverse irregular and steep terrain.
- Wear personal protective gear.
- Drive a passenger vehicle (truck).
