VHB's Virginia offices have an immediate opening for a Transportation Planner! This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope.
Responsibilities- Support multimodal transportation planning projects.
- Conduct and synthesize data-driven analyses (travel demand, safety, access, equity, and performance measures) into clear, compelling planning recommendations.
- Conduct technical traffic engineering work using Synchro, SIDRA, HCS, Micro Station and VISSIM.
- Support public and stakeholder engagement, including workshops, open houses, small group meetings, and online engagement.
- Coordinate with internal teams (planning, engineering, urban design, environmental, and GIS) to develop integrated solutions.
- Mentor junior staff by reviewing work, providing feedback, and modeling collaborative team behavior.
- Comfort working with data and analysis tools (e.g., GIS, Excel, transportation datasets, safety data) and interpreting results for planning applications.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Team-oriented with strong capability to work independently.
- A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve.
- The ability to work on multiple projects and work independently.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency with communication tools such as Word, PowerPoint, and graphics software.
- 8+ years of planning, consulting, and compliance experience in the transportation sector.
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field.
- Professional certification preferred (i.e., American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or PTOE certification).
The base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $150,000 for Virginia and DC offices. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
