Structural Bridge Engineer
Jacobs is seeking a Structural Bridge Engineer to join our teams focused on transportation infrastructure. The role involves performing structural analysis and design for all structural aspects of transportation highway projects, including bridges, and supporting planning, specifications, and reports. The candidate may be stationed near our offices in Reston, Richmond, or Virginia Beach, VA, with flexibility for hybrid work.
Responsibilities- Perform structural analysis and design for transportation bridge and highway projects.
- Prepare design documentation, calculations, specifications, and reports.
- Conduct inspections when required.
- Collaborate with project teams and clients to ensure design compliance with applicable standards.
- Previous professional experience in bridge design.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in VA, or obtainable in 6 months.
- Experience with VDOT, including familiarity with Office Practice Manuals, Stage I reports, and Stage II requirements.
- Ability to produce design documentation/calculations and specifications.
- Working knowledge of CAD systems, specifically Micro Station, and VDOT CADD Compliance Standards.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software (MDX, LEAP Bridge, Larsa).
- Thorough understanding of and practical experience applying the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in structural engineering focused on bridge design.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience on various types of bridges, including concrete and structural steel.
- Experience in new bridge design, maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and preservation.
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering.
- Proven experience with BrIM workflows and Open Bridge Designer (Bentley Systems).
- Active involvement in local engineering societies.
