Role Description
Arcadis is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Climate Adaptation and Water Management Team in Virginia Beach or Richmond, Virginia.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Structural Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering engineering and consulting services for a variety of projects, including flood risk reduction, waterfront infrastructure resilience, dam safety, lock and navigation structure design, and more.
Primary accountabilities include:
- Conduct structural related engineering investigations, calculations, and planning work.
- Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions and regulatory agency specifications.
- Develop calculations, plans, specifications, requests for proposals, and other contract documents.
- Collaborate with engineering disciplines, office/project staff, client and subcontractors throughout the project life cycle, demonstrating clear oral and written communication skills.
- Exercise judgment on work details and preliminary selection and adaptation of engineering alternatives.
- Function as Design Lead, Task Manager or Project Engineer on projects, managing budgets and schedules, leading deliverables, developing and managing plans, permit checklists, scopes of work, and facilitating coordination for timely submission.
- Travel may be required for site visits, client meetings, safety audits, planning purposes, or construction oversight.
- Mentor entry- and junior-level structural engineering staff.
Required Qualifications
- 8 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
The ideal candidate will have experience designing flood walls, flood gates, retaining wall structures, and deep foundations, coupled with experience on Federal resiliency projects. A Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is a plus, along with progressive infrastructure project experience in water management, flood control, and seismic resilience. Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as STAAD, MathCAD, AutoCAD, and Revit is also helpful.

Salary range: $80,000 – $132,000 per year, based on experience, education, and other factors.
