Senior Technology Engineer – NPI Engineering

The NPI Engineering team is responsible for enabling the smooth introduction, scaling, and long term success of new technologies within our manufacturing operations. As a Senior Technology Engineer, you will support technology strategy, guide technical readiness, and ensure new packing systems and automation solutions integrate seamlessly into our operational ecosystem. Your technical depth, mentoring abilities, and influence of both internal teams and external integrators will elevate the department’s capability and secure successful deployment of sophisticated technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the senior technical liaison between NPI Engineering, R&D teams, and external automation vendors, ensuring technologies are introduced in alignment with global standards and the vertical startup process.
  • Lead the deployment of new packing technologies, including automated packing lines, robotics, AGVs and connected systems, ensuring proper integration with MES and plant infrastructure.
  • Oversee multi vendor automation integration, ensuring flawless interaction across PLCs, robotics, AGVs, SCADA, MES, and plant network environments.
  • Support the startup of new operations by coordinating technical deliverables, validating system capability, and ensuring stable ramp-up of automated solutions.
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, equipment configuration documentation, and digital integration guidelines to ensure long term scalability and global alignment.
  • Lead troubleshooting for complex automation and MES issues, drive structured root cause analysis, and implement data driven corrective actions to stabilize performance.
  • Monitor technology and system performance (Automation, MES, AGVs, packing equipment) across lines; identify gaps and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians within NPI Engineering, building capability in automation fundamentals, system integration, troubleshooting, and operational perfection.
  • Foster strong cross functional collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, IT/OT, and vendor partners to ensure successful and sustainable technology implementation.
Do you have what it takes?
  • Proven experience in automation intensive manufacturing environments, ideally with packing systems or high volume operations.
  • Strong technical understanding of automation systems, robotics, AGVs, PLCs, industrial networks, and SCADA platforms.
  • Experience integrating SCADA systems with automated equipment, including defining tags, alarms, HMI/SCADA visualization standards, and data acquisition requirements.
  • Proven experience starting up new operations, including commissioning, validation, and ramp up of automated equipment from multiple vendors.
  • Demonstrated expertise in system integration across controls, SCADA, MES, mechanical, and electrical interfaces.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills with the ability to lead detailed root cause investigations across automation, SCADA, and MES layers.
  • Experience working with OEMs, integrators, and global technology partners on sophisticated deployments.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills; ability to translate global design intent into operational standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capability to develop technical experts and engineering professionals.
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal).
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Location:

Richmond, Virginia (LEGO manufacturing factory). This is not a remote position.

Salary range: $93,989 – $140,983 per year, based on experience, market benchmarks, and organizational constraints. Full compensation details, including benefits, will be communicated upon offer.
