Position Purpose

Senior Project Engineer – performs and plans commissioning of mechanical systems. Must be a self‑motivated, energetic professional with an understanding of building mechanical system design, construction, and operation. Must have experience with commissioning processes for mechanical systems ranging in size, rating and complexity. The ideal candidate possesses theoretical and practical knowledge in commissioning, testing and troubleshooting of mechanical systems and related controls.

The candidate will review project information, execute daily field activities, maintain project documentation, assist the Project Manager with schedule and resource planning, and provide guidance to Project Engineers. May lead small to medium‑sized projects and work well in a team environment where leadership is required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Commission mechanical, plumbing & fire alarm and suppression equipment and related controls, primarily in data center environments.
  • Review system designs for compliance with client facility goals.
  • Prepare plans and procedures for execution of the commissioning process.
  • Conduct commissioning activities from design through occupation, in accordance with client requirements and industry best practices.
  • Attend factory testing of equipment and document procedures and results.
  • Conduct functional testing of equipment.
  • Perform analysis of test results using instrumentation and prepare reports.
  • Fully document all field procedures, including results, issues and observations, via company templates or online applications.
  • Report on system performance and make technical recommendations on issues.
  • Work with the Project Manager and project teams to coordinate and execute field activities.
  • Prepare and provide input on commissioning project documentation and schedules.
  • Draft comprehensive test procedures for a variety of equipment and systems.
  • Attend relevant project coordination and schedule meetings as necessary.
  • May be required to lead commissioning meetings or speak on technical topics.
  • Assist with submitting and maintaining daily commissioning reports.
  • Train and guide both Associate Project Engineers and Project Engineers on roles & responsibilities.
  • Respond to project team and client inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Comply with company, client, and project safety requirements.

Work Environment
  • Travel nationwide 50%–75% if not assigned locally; may have periods of higher travel expectation.
Qualifications
  • Education/Experience/Background: BSc/MSc in Mechanical Engineering with 5 or more years of mission‑critical project experience, or relevant and applicable mechanical and/or controls experience.
  • OR
  • Minimum of 7 or more years of experience in commissioning with mission‑critical project experience, or relevant and applicable mechanical and/or controls experience.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Experience in Mission Critical facility commissioning essential.
    • Organized, detail‑oriented, analytical, proactive, problem solver.
    • Good communication and relationship skills.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work with limited supervision and manage junior engineers on day‑to‑day tasks.
